Gardening is sooo not my favourite chore.
W@dsy and I had planned our day, we checked the weather reports so we could catch the one day without rain, we arranged for my father to take the kids in the morning and we borrowed the mower.
We were going to attack the lawn. We dropped the kids off, collected the mower, got home and it started to rain. A good ten minute soak later and we got started. The sky completely cleared up which sounds like a good thing except the rain had wet the ground just enough so that I couldn't weed without getting wet, the weed killer won't work on wet plants and in the increasing heat of the day it felt like steam was coming off the ground.
After a few hours we stood up and surveyed our handywork, our yard looked tidier. That's all, just tidier. Hours of work, scratched up hands, sunburn and sweat and all we have is the satisfaction that the yard will stay tidy, until you know, it starts growing again.
I wish we could just have a plastic lawn, trees and shrubs so we wouldn't have to mow or weed or prune. Oh well, at least we'll start the new year with a somewhat presentable lawn.

Oh Dear
In an attempt to transform my boring mum-hair into oh-so-cool mum-hair I went to the hairdresser. I am now significantly poorer and have lost 3 hours of my life to a hair that looks like Justin Bieber got streaks. My darling husband tells me it looks fine and in no way like Justin Beiber but I don't really believe him. Oh well, at least hair grows.

Happy Birthday to Me!
Ok so I'm another year older, these thing happen though. All in all it was a pretty good day, I caught up with a friend of mine for some kid-free shopping, then back to my place for lunch with the kids and our husbands, relaxing afternoon then dinner out with the family.
One really good thing about having your birthday after Christmas is all the post-Christmas sales. A big thanks to all those who got me vouchers or money for my little shopping trip. Now to show off all the cool stuff I got (just picture me wearing everything and twirling around like I'm five years old).
I just love this dress, I'm not a spots person but this dress just called to me. It was the last one on the rack, it was in the right size and the style actually suits me!
Oh I also got myself a headband, earrings, necklace and a ring (I just love the sales). My favourite is the ring, you can't really see it in the picture but the ring is a little nest with a bird and little eggs, it was cute, quaint and of course it was also the last one on the shelf. I also got myself a new mascara and lip balm.
After shopping was sushi for lunch back home. My friend's daughter was playing with Gremlin and they were so cute, they kept sending each other into fits of giggles. Then my friends headed off to get the kids home for a nap, I put my kids down for a nap, then I got nap too! I love naps. Then just a chilled out arvo, Gremlin kept dancing and singing Wiggles songs to himself, which though adorable can get tiring pretty quickly, I think I'll have to teach him some new songs soon.
And then we went to Grill'd for dinner with the family and I was presented with beautiful Kindle...case, my actual Kindle is still on order, it should arrive mid January. I can't wait until it gets here, but then I'll probably spend all my money on books, books, books. And then it was back to Dad's place for some oh so sugary birthday cake which I love.
Wow, I've had a big day, I guess it's time to sleep, mmm sleep, zzzzzzzzzz.

My life isn't really exciting but...
I love my life.
Yummy. I'm just sitting here smelling reheated turkey leftovers, about to watch "Inception" on our new blu-ray player with my spunky hubby. My life rocks!

Eek! It's been like forever since I last blogged.
So, Christmas.
On Christmas Eve I did a halfday of work and bought the last few things for Christmas dinner, then W@dsy and I went home and assembled the kids' Christmas present.
Ta Da!
Gremlin loves it but unfortunately the weather is terrible at the moment and he can't play on it much.
I spent Christmas day cleaning, cooking, ferrying Gremlin inside from the rain then outside to play, and familying. It was fun but tiring. My turkey with bacon and onion stuffing turned out really well and everything went really smoothly. I felt a little odd about that, the day was quite organised and I kind of missed my usual level of insanity. I almost felt... dare I say it...normal! And now I have plenty of leftovers to consume, so much for eating healthy. Oh well, the diet can always start next year, right?

Friends and Kids
I'm pretty sure that God made kids cute so that they would survive to adulthood.
Gremlin still refuses to sleep any later than 5:30am and turns his nose up at any food that isn't toast. But he's just so cute when he tries to imitate his daddy doing Wii Fit exercises. And Chicken, she is going through a stage where she wants to be held all the time but then she turns to face you and gives you a ridiculous grin and you just melt.
I wouldn't trade my kids for anything but some days you just get so exhausted you don't know what to do. It's those days I especially thank God for my friends. I have a few friends I can just call and chat to and hear a happy voice instead of a cranky one. I can always call my husband and he's a fantastic support but there is only so many times I can call him while he's trying to get some work done. My friends are such blessings and I don't know what I would do without them.

Yup I'm bragging
My wonderful husband W@dsy brought me some flowers, just because I wasn't feeling great and he thought I'd like some flowers. God gave me the best husband!

Finally
Yes, despite my brain threatening to explode out my ears I unearthed the star from the kids' cupboard and W@dsy and I put the lights on the tree.
I like it, it's a bit more twinkly in actual life though.

My Brain!
Today is Day 4 of the Enormous Headache. I'm not sure why my body has turned against me in this way, but it has. I went home from work and I am thanking God for daycare. I'm not usually very good at resting because there is always things to do. I keep thinking things like, "Well, I'm home, so I might as well do the dishes." Is it a mum thing or just a me thing? Anyway I've made an effort an actually did rest a bit today. Maybe I'll put the lights on the Christmas tree...

Ahh, Weekend Away
God blesses our family incredibly. We were planning a weekend without the kids (W@dsy's wonderful parents took them for us), and a friend shouted us two nights at the Sebel! It was fantastic to get away, not be "Mum" and to just be me.
W@sdy and I relaxed, wandered about town, swam in the pool, and had a chance to see what a lovely and slightly quirky town we live in.
The Lovely Town...
And the Slightly Quirky Town...
We also came across the Literature section of a bookstore, which was entirely empty, no stack of books nearby to indicate a shelf tidy or rearrangement, just an empty bookshelf. Oh and Oddity No.4 for the weekend was a lady walking down the street wearing a burqa (traditional Islamic clothing) which covered most of her body, her enormous sunnies covered her face, but what was odd about the outfit was her neon yellow flipflops.
So there you have it my friends, Cairns is both beautiful and strange.

The Esplanade at sunset
The skyline from our hotel room
And the Slightly Quirky Town...
Yes, that sign does say "Sushi & Waffle." It may be just me, but I find that an odd food combination.
Just a standard hotel toilet you say? Well, not if you need to make a phone call...
